The Limpopo Department of Education is excited to announce the opening of applications for 50 Learner Support Agent (LSA) positions. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified applicants to support vulnerable learners and make a significant impact in their communities.
Job Details:
- Position: Learner Support Agent: School-Based (50 Posts)
- Status: Temporary/Fixed-Term Contract
- Period: Two Years (July 2024 — July 2026)
- Remuneration: 4000 Per Month (stipend) for Schools
Job Purpose:
- Provide professional services to support schools in caring for and protecting vulnerable learners, aligned with HIV/AIDS and Life Skills Programmes.
- Maintain effective working relationships with sister departments, local AIDS councils, and other partners.
- Coordinate an efficient referral system to ensure effective service delivery.
- Support vulnerable learners with trauma debriefing, case management, and confidentiality.
- Conduct home visits with School-Based Support Teams (SBST) for identified Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs).
- Maintain organized filing systems for all reports, circulars, and policies.
- Establish Peer Clubs/Soul Buddies clubs at school level.
- Prepare monthly reports and maintain good referral systems.
- Support mobilization and programme awareness in line with the CSTL framework and attend workshops.
Requirements:
- A National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- A recognized Diploma/Degree in Social Work, Community Development Work, Auxiliary Social Work, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) will serve as an added advantage.
- Young persons aged 18 – 40 years.
Competencies:
- Good writing skills for compiling reports.
- Effective communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with learners, educators, and stakeholders.
- Capability to work both individually and as part of a team.
Duties:
- Provide emotional support for vulnerable learners.
- Keep up-to-date records of vulnerable learners.
- Accompany learners in partnership with SBST members to access welfare services.
- Assist with homework, especially for child and granny-headed families.
- Facilitate peer education activities.
- Work with School-Based Teams in the school.
- Provide support to pregnant learners, those sick, or those who missed school by taking school work to their homes.
