About the Netwerk24 Scholarship Programme – Fields Covered

Netwerk24 invites students to apply for their scholarship programme for the 2025 academic year. Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing Journalism or Communication studies, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, who wish to pursue a career in Afrikaans digital journalism. Students from other fields, such as Arts, Law, Economic and Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Social Sciences, may also be considered.

Scholarship Value, Selection, and Obligation

For the 2025 academic year, 2 scholarships will be awarded, totaling R300,000:

  • Undergraduate Scholarship: Valued at R130,000 for Bachelor’s degree or diploma studies.
  • Postgraduate Scholarship: Valued at R170,000 for Honors or master’s degree studies.

The selection panel will assess candidates based on their language skills, news sense, communication skills, and general knowledge. Successful candidates will be notified after their interviews.

Post-graduation, scholarship recipients must complete an internship of up to 1 year within Netwerk24’s editorial departments, followed by a 1-year fixed-term contract.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed Matric.
  • Undergraduate students: Entering the final year of studies towards a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma, preferably in Journalism or Communication studies.
  • Postgraduate students: Entering the final year of an Honors or Master’s Degree, preferably in Journalism or Communication studies.
  • Desire to pursue a career in Afrikaans digital journalism.
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans.
  • Excellent news sense, communication skills, general knowledge, and language skills.

How to Apply for the Netwerk24 Scholarship

To apply, submit clear copies of the following documents:

  1. Latest academic record (on institution’s letterhead).
  2. Updated Curriculum Vitae.
  3. Motivational letter explaining why you want to work in journalism and how/where you can contribute (maximum 500 words).
  4. Video introducing yourself (maximum 1 minute).
