Sassa opens SRD Grant Applications for June 2025 — Who Needs to Apply

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially opened applications for the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for June 2025. However, not all individuals need to reapply to continue receiving support.

No Need to Reapply Monthly

Sassa has clarified that beneficiaries with approved applications from previous months do not need to reapply. These individuals will automatically be considered for continued SRD grant payments each month.

“There is no need to submit a new application every month,” Sassa confirmed.

Submitting duplicate applications may delay payment processing and could cause administrative backlogs.

Who Should Apply for the June 2025 SRD Grant?

You should submit a new SRD application for June 2025 if you:

  • Have never applied for the SRD grant before
  • Cancelled your previous application
  • Were declined in earlier months and now meet the eligibility criteria

Applications can be submitted online via the official Sassa SRD website.

SRD Grant Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the R370 SRD grant, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or special permit holder
  • Be unemployed
  • Not receive any other form of government financial assistance, including:
    • UIF benefits
    • NSFAS funding
    • Other Sassa grants
  • Have less than R624 in your bank account during the month

How Sassa Verifies Applications

Sassa works with several departments to validate each application:

  • The Department of Home Affairs verifies your identity and residency status
  • The National Treasury assesses your financial status by reviewing bank activity and other income data

Once verified, successful applicants typically receive their R370 payment at the end of the month.
