SABC1 and Jika Majika producer Thabo Mphelo are on a search for singers for an Idols-type competition reality show called uShuni Womhlaba. They’re looking to discover new talent from various South African musical genres such as Maskandi, Mbhaqanga, Isicathamiya, Afro-pop, and traditional music from different regions of Mzansi.
Hosts
The series will be hosted by Ukhozi FM’s Mandla Magwaza, a.k.a. “Njinji wami,” and Metro FM’s Mpumi “Msakazi” Mlambo.
Judges
The judges for this exciting new competition are:
- Sho Madjozi – Afro-fusion muso
- Big Zulu – Rapper and songwriter
- Phuzekhemisi – Maskandi muso
- Msaki – Composer, singer, and songwriter
Prizes
The competition offers incredible prizes, including:
- Mentorship: Guidance from industry professionals.
- Recording Contract: A contract to record an album.
- Cash Prizes:
- R500,000 for the winner.
- R300,000 for the second place.
- R200,000 for the third place.
Auditions
The series is being produced by Thabo Mphelo Films, and auditions are happening in four regions across South Africa. A total of 40 singers will be selected for the show. If you’d like to audition, here’s what you need to know:
