Biography of Ntate Stunna

Early Life:
Thaabe Letsie, known by his stage name Ntate Stunna, was born on 17 January 1996 in Maseru, the capital and largest city of Lesotho. Ntate Stunna fell in love with hip-hop at a young age, long before it became fashionable in Lesotho. Influenced by artists like 50 Cent and G-Unit during his primary school years, he and his friend faced criticism for their musical tastes, as house music was the more popular genre at the time. Despite the criticism, Ntate Stunna continued to develop his love for hip-hop, writing his own lyrics during his high school years.

The stage name “Stunna” was given to him by fans who admired his Sesotho rapping style. The prefix “Ntate,” meaning father, was added to signify his prominent position in the local rap scene, resulting in the stage name Ntate Stunna. Before embracing his confidence in rap and considering music as a sustainable career, he performed under the name Megahertz.

Ntate Stunna comes from an average family but attended good schools. He initially aspired to study law or IT after matric, but financial difficulties during his matric year led him to focus on his music career.

Career:
Ntate Stunna began his professional music career in 2014 with the release of his first single, “Mookho.” Despite the challenges of not earning royalties from airplay and the widespread piracy of music in Lesotho, his debut single went viral. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Ice Prince, P-Square, HHP, Mo Molemi, and Kuli Chana, Ntate Stunna found his unique voice and narrative early on.

To combat the financial difficulties posed by music piracy, Ntate Stunna adopted an innovative strategy by printing T-shirts to accompany his single “Mookho,” which became a successful venture. This strategy has been a consistent part of his career, culminating in the release of a fashion line in conjunction with his EP “Sesotho Fashioneng,” which includes a blanket in partnership with Aranda.

His single “Ke Thatha” achieved over a million views on YouTube, and his songs continue to perform well on various streaming platforms. Despite working as an independent artist, Ntate Stunna has achieved significant success, thanks in part to the management and PR handled by his manager, Barry Matseletsele.

Personal Life:
Ntate Stunna’s journey in music has been marked by resilience and innovation. From overcoming financial challenges to creating a successful brand, he continues to thrive in the music industry while staying true to his Sesotho roots.
