Farm Aid Position

Location: Madzivhandila College of Agriculture: Lwamondo Farm

Requirements:

  • Grade 10 / ABET / AET or equivalent qualification as recognised by SAQA.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations and knowledge of Batho Pele Principles.
  • Experience in farm work and knowledge of various types of farm activities will be an added advantage.

Duties:

  • Apply chemical crop protection.
  • Soil cultivation and preparation.
  • Irrigation of crops.
  • Care for sick livestock, including dipping, vaccination, and dosing.
  • Count livestock daily.
  • Tend to crops/orchards/vineyards.
  • Clean facilities and dispose of farm waste materials.
  • Firefighting and prevention.

Duties:

  • Perform routine manual farming activities.
  • Control the movement of cloven-hoofed animals.
  • Stop, register, and search vehicles from the redline area.
  • Check for and confiscate meat, dairy products, dung, grass, hides, skins, etc.
  • Open and close the gate.
  • Report confiscated products to the supervisor.
  • Conduct fence patrol and repair breakages.
  • Trace animal tracks along the redline fence.
  • Clear bushes along the redline fence.
  • Control quarantined animals and check permits.
  • Liaise with the Animal Health Technician for inspection.
  • Keep records of permits, quarantined animals, and vehicle movements.
