Internship Programme Overview

Duties/Responsibilities

The internship will provide a diverse range of learning pathways, including:

  1. Technical Agronomic Trials: Interns will take ownership of technical aspects of agronomic trials, developing independent thinking and problem-solving skills. Initially, they will receive support from experienced technical officers and researchers to facilitate gradual learning and increased responsibilities.
  2. Skill Development: Interns will develop agriculture-specific technical skills and general soft skills, preparing them to become well-rounded agronomists. Skills development areas will include:
  • Project management
  • Time management
  • Applied learning
  • Social and networking skills
  • Self-control and self-motivation
  • Communication skills
  • Problem-solving and higher-order thinking
  1. Exposure to Various Regions and Crops: Interns will gain experience across multiple projects and crops throughout South Africa, equipping them with essential skills to work as agronomists nationwide.
  2. Industry Engagement: Interns will engage with the industry through farmers’ days, symposia, and workshops, and will have opportunities to present preliminary research findings.

Job Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A BSc, BSc(Agric), or BAgric degree in Agronomy or a similar field.
  • Only South African citizens are eligible to apply.
  • A valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel during the production season.
