Biography: Hungani Ndlovu
Early Life Hungani Malcolm Ndlovu was born on 19 June 1994, in Mpumalanga, South Africa. He was raised in Bushbuckridge, Nelspruit. From an early age, Ndlovu showed a passion for dance, which evolved into a broader interest in the performing arts.
Career Beginnings and Education Ndlovu’s career started when he was just seven years old, primarily as a dancer. To further his career, he moved to the United States, where he studied HipHop Choreography at Flii’Cademy in Los Angeles under choreographer FliiStylz. He also earned an Associate Degree in Acting for Film from the New York Film Academy.
Rise to Fame In 2014, Ndlovu made his acting debut with a lead role in the short film Memoir of an Honest Voice, which won the Best Short Film award at the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2016, he joined the cast of Scandal! as Romeo Medupe, a role that catapulted him into stardom. He played this character until 2022.
Ndlovu also appeared in films like Because You’re Black (2016) and HEKS (2019), along with stage productions such as A Raisin in the Sun and A Night with Sam.
Skeem Saam and Recent Work In July 2023, Ndlovu took over the role of Thabo “Tbose” Maputla on the SABC 1 series Skeem Saam, replacing Cornet Mamabolo. His portrayal of Tbose added another major role to his acting resume.
Alongside acting, Ndlovu pursued DJing under the name DJ Grizi, expanding his artistic endeavors beyond the screen.
Personal Life Hungani is married to fellow actress and TV presenter Stephanie Ndlovu. The couple got married in a private ceremony on 23 February 2019. Together, they have a daughter named Rhulani Iyana Ndlovu. The couple also co-founded The Ndlovu Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at helping young South Africans achieve their goals through dance and drama.
