About the UCT Online High School Scholarship Programme
The UCT Online High School is offering the Learning Liberated Scholarship & Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year. This scholarship is available to students entering Grades 8 to 11 who will complete the CAPS curriculum online starting in January 2025. The programme aims to provide education to learners who cannot afford the full tuition, thanks to support from corporate sponsors such as Valenture Institute, Sanlam, Imbeleko Foundation, South African Human Rights Commission, and Sasria.
Scholarship Coverage
The Learning Liberated Scholarship covers 80% of the tuition fee and the full SACAI Grade 12 Examination fee. This partial scholarship allows more students to benefit from the programme.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen residing in South Africa.
- Have at least one parent or guardian who is a South African citizen.
- Be entering Grade 8, 9, 10, or 11.
- Be of the correct age for the grade they are entering.
- Be able to start in January 2025.
- Intend to complete the CAPS curriculum to achieve the NSC.
- Have proven financial need, with a family household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum or R29,000 per month.
- Achieve a minimum average of 50% for English (Home Language).
- Achieve a minimum average of 50% for Mathematics (for Grades 8 to 10 applicants) or 40% for Mathematics/Mathematics Literacy (for Grade 11 applicants).
- Intend to pursue tertiary studies and a career after high school.
- Have access to stable internet, a laptop or desktop, and a printer.
- Have a safe learning environment with support from at least one adult champion/supervisor.
- Agree to the rules of the scholarship policy.

Timeline and Selection Process
- 6 May 2024 – 31 August 2024: Application period. Ensure eligibility criteria are met and all documents are correctly submitted.
- 1 September 2024 – 30 September 2024: Shortlisting and matching of candidates with available funding and sponsors’ criteria. Candidates must pay a non-refundable Placement Fee.
- 1 October 2024 – 31 October 2024: Awarding and acceptance of the scholarship. Successful learners will receive a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to sign. Submission of the 2024 Term 4 Final Academic Report is required.
Closing Date
The application deadline is 31 August 2024 (at 23:59). Late applications will not be accepted.
