About the Bursary Provider – Schauenburg Education Trust

Schauenburg (Pty) Ltd, also known as Schauenburg Systems, manufactures innovative electronic equipment for mine safety, utilizing cutting-edge technology. The Schauenburg Education Trust was established to participate in the socioeconomic transformation of South Africa by providing financial assistance to young black students, enabling them to further their tertiary studies in Electronics, Engineering, and Economics sectors.

Fields Covered by the Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary Programme

The Schauenburg Education Trust invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies within the following fields, at selected universities (University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, North-West University (Vanderbijlpark), and University of the Witwatersrand):

  • Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering (BSc / BEng)
  • Business Administration (BCom)
  • Business Management (BCom)

The focus is on awarding bursaries to students pursuing scarce skills qualifications, ensuring more skilled professionals are developed and produced for future employment in South Africa. Bursaries will be awarded based on merit and need.

Expenses Covered, Obligations & Selection

The bursary will cover registration fees, tuition and examination fees, prescribed textbooks, course materials, accommodation, and a living allowance (either partial or full cover). Bursary recipients must partake in vacation work or job shadowing at Schauenburg Systems for a minimum of 3 weeks during mid-year University holidays.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews with the Trustees and Bursary Administrators and undergo psychometric testing. Successful candidates will be required to sign a written contract. If you do not receive feedback within 4 weeks after the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements for the Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying full-time towards one of the qualifications listed above
  • Entering 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in 2025
  • Studying at University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, North-West University (Vanderbijlpark), or University of the Witwatersrand
  • Good academic progress during the current year of study
  • Passed all registered courses while at University
  • Not receiving any other bursary funding for the 2025 academic year
  • Black (as per B-BBEE Legislation)
  • Preference will be given to black female students, black students under 35 years old, and black students living with disabilities

Required Supporting Documentation

Submit clear copies of the following documents with your application (compulsory – missing items may disqualify your application):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Full academic record to date, including most recent results (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Motivational letter stating your financial position and why you should be awarded the bursary (maximum 800 words)
  • Proof of parents or guardians household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
