Murray & Roberts is inviting applications for the position of Learner Charge Hand Diamond Drilling, to be based at Bentley Park near Carletonville, Gauteng. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified candidates to gain hands-on experience and training in diamond drilling operations. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Foreman.

Job Description

As a Learner Charge Hand Diamond Drilling, you will be responsible for:

  • Team Management: Effectively managing a team of general workers and safely performing the duties of a Learner Charge Hand Diamond Drill.
  • Competency Achievement: Achieving competency at this entry-level role by successfully completing practical work and theory at the M&RC Training Academy.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operating diamond drilling equipment under supervision.
  • Safety Procedures: Following lock-out procedures and adhering to M&RC’s standards, policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Engagement: Effectively engaging with facilitators, coaches, assessors, and the site team.
  • Administrative Tasks: Completing administrative tasks accurately and timeously.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks proactively, escalating and reporting them in a timely manner.
  • Team Supervision: Providing effective self and team supervision in alignment with M&RC’s values and leadership initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this learnership, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
    • Trade Certificate or Team Leader Certificate.
    • Diamond Drill Operator technical skills Certificate or similar.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Valid EB Driver’s License (advantageous).
    • Competent A & B certificates.
  • Skills:
    • Good English written and verbal communication skills.

Work Experience

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

  • Team Leadership: At least 3 years of experience as a Team Leader underground if in possession of a Team Leader Certificate.
  • Diamond Drilling Operations: Experience in Diamond Drilling Operations is advantageous if in possession of a Trade Certificate.
  • Technical Knowledge: Sound knowledge of Diamond Drilling Operations, equipment, and methods.
  • Risk Assessment: Understanding of baseline risk assessments with the ability to complete issue-based risk assessments independently.
