ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – MINING QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY (MQA)

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) plays a key role in South Africa’s mining industry by fostering transformation through skills development programmes. Established under the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996, MQA ensures that the mining and minerals sector is equipped with skilled professionals to meet employment equity, health and safety standards, and improve overall productivity.

ABOUT THE MQA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The MQA invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. The bursary offers two types of funding:

  1. Unemployed Bursaries – 700 available
  2. Employed Bursaries – 70 available

The bursaries cover a variety of fields relevant to the mining sector. Fields of study supported include Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical), Occupational Health, Mining Engineering, Geology, and many others. Both university and TVET college qualifications are eligible for this bursary programme.
