Dr. George attended the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University), where he completed his undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. He further pursued a BA (Hons) and subsequently an MBA. His MBA research report earned him the Investec Securities Prize for the Best Research in the Field of Investments. Dr. George also holds a Doctorate in Business Leadership (DBL) with a focus on Economics. In addition, he has an advanced certificate in Municipal Governance, a Certificate Programme in Leadership Coaching, and has completed the Harvard Negotiation Course.

His political career further advanced after the 2006 municipal elections, where he served as a PR councillor for the City of Johannesburg, contributing to committees on Housing, Finance, Economic Development, and Municipal Accounts. From 2008 to 2015, Dr. George was a member of Parliament, where he served as the shadow minister of Finance, whip in the National Assembly, and trustee of the Political Office Bearers’ Pension Fund.

In 2015, Dr. George resumed his career in the private sector, focusing on finance. His dedication to the DA and his financial expertise were recognized again in 2023 when he was elected to serve another term as the federal finance chairperson.
