Biography of Brenden Praise

Brenden Praise Ledwaba, born on 5 February 1994 in Graskop, Mpumalanga, is a South African singer-songwriter and music producer who gained national recognition as the runner-up in Season 9 of Idols South Africa. Brenden’s soulful voice and charm made him a fan favorite, earning him a solid place in South Africa’s music industry.

Early Life and Education

Brenden grew up in a musical family, which sparked his interest in music from an early age. By the age of six, he had already begun singing, and by age 12, he was learning to play the piano, as well as bass guitar and drums. Brenden attended Graskop Primary School and later matriculated from Sybrand Van Niekerk High School in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

After completing his high school education, Brenden pursued a qualification in Sound Engineering at Emendy Sound and Music Technology College in 2013. His formal training gave him expertise in studio production, mixing, and mastering music.

Music Career

Brenden’s rise to fame began in 2013 when he auditioned for Idols South Africa Season 9. His performances consistently won over the judges and audience, ultimately leading to him finishing as the runner-up in November 2013. Judge Randall Abrahams famously remarked that Brenden “makes young girls imagine they were women and old women imagine they were young girls.”

After his time on Idols, Brenden continued to hone his musical craft. In June 2019, he released his debut studio album, Feel So Good, which showcased his growth as an artist and music producer.

In April 2023, Brenden released his second studio album, Mhalamhala. The album was critically acclaimed and earned him a nomination for Best Contemporary Faith Album at the 29th edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs). In December 2023, he collaborated with Mörda on a track titled Mysterious Ways for The Color Purple soundtrack, further cementing his place in the music industry.
