PRASA Bursary 2025: Everything You Need to Know to Apply

Are you a South African student facing financial challenges in paying for your higher education? The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is here to support you! PRASA invites all eligible South Africans who lack the funds to finance their studies to apply for their bursary program. This incredible opportunity is available to students who are admitted for enrollment or currently registered with a public Higher Education Institution (HEI) within the Republic of South Africa.

Who Can Apply for the PRASA Bursary?

PRASA’s bursary program is open to all young South Africans who meet the following criteria:

  1. Age Requirements: Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  2. Institutional Admission: You must be admitted or accepted to a public HEI registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
  3. Academic Year: The bursary is applicable to students enrolling or already registered for the 2025 academic year.
  4. Fields of Study: You must be pursuing a qualification in one of these fields:
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy or Light Current)
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Quantity Surveying

Academic Requirements

  • Previous Years of Study: If you have been studying in 2024 or earlier, you need to demonstrate an academic average of at least 60% (a minimum C symbol) across your coursework.
  • Preference Factors: PRASA will give preference to students who:
  • Show outstanding academic performance.
  • Are orphans or come from child-headed households.
  • Hold valid South African identification.

Application Submission Requirements

To be considered, your application must include the following documents:

  1. Proof of Admission: A letter on the official letterhead of the Higher Education Institution confirming your acceptance or enrollment.
  2. Academic Records: Your final examination results and an academic transcript if you are already enrolled.
  3. Letter of Recommendation: A letter from a community leader, school principal, or lecturer supporting your conduct and contribution to your school or community.

Applications must be submitted via email to Sibusiso.nhlapo@prasa.com between 01 and 15 November 2024. Late applications will not be considered, so be sure to apply within the specified dates.
