SASSA Payment Dates for September 2024: What You Need to Know

SASSA plays a crucial role in providing financial support to millions of South Africans who rely on various social grants and allowances. With approximately 29 million beneficiaries, including elderly pensioners, children, disability recipients, and war veterans, timely and accurate payments are essential. As we approach September 2024, it’s important for SASSA beneficiaries to be aware of the upcoming payment dates and how to access their funds. This blog post will outline the payment schedule for September and highlight recent increases to permanent SASSA grants as confirmed by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

September 2024 Payment Dates

SASSA will distribute payments according to the following schedule for September:

  • Older Persons Grants: Tuesday, September 3, 2024
  • Disability Grants: Wednesday, September 4, 2024
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, September 5, 2024

During the first week of the month, payments will be made to those receiving Older Persons, Disability, and Children’s Grants. Following these payments, Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients will receive their funds.

How to Receive Your Payments

SASSA beneficiaries have multiple options for receiving their payments:

  • Supermarkets: Payments can be collected at selected supermarkets, including Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers, and Shoprite.
  • SASSA Card: Funds can be accessed directly using a SASSA card.
  • CashSend: Recipients can also collect their payments through CashSend.
  • Bank Transfer: Alternatively, payments may be transferred directly into a bank account.

Please note that all beneficiaries, except SRD recipients, can collect their grants at South African Post Office branches.

Recent Increases to Permanent SASSA Grants

In response to rising living costs, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced increases to permanent SASSA grants during his 2024 Budget Speech. The adjustments are as follows:

  • Old Age, War Veterans, Disability, and Care Dependency Grants: An increase of R100, split into R90 effective from April and an additional R10 from October.
  • Foster Care Grant: A R50 increase.
  • Child Support Grant: A R20 increase.
  • Social Relief of Distress Grant: An increase of R20 or 5.7%, effective from April 1.

These increases are designed to help grants keep pace with inflation and improve access for all beneficiaries.

Conclusion

With September’s payment dates approaching, SASSA beneficiaries should be aware of when and how they will receive their grants. By understanding the schedule and payment methods, recipients can ensure they access their funds promptly.
