The Pinetown Magistrate Office is currently seeking a qualified Court Interpreter to join its team. This position is crucial in facilitating effective communication in legal proceedings, ensuring that all parties involved have access to justice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpretation Services: Provide interpretation in Criminal Court, Civil Court, Labour Court, and quasi-judicial proceedings.
  • Consultation Support: Assist during legal consultations to ensure accurate communication.
  • Document Translation: Translate legal documents and exhibits as needed.
  • Record Maintenance: Record cases in the criminal record book and draw up case records at the request of the Magistrate and Prosecutors.
  • Statistical Recording: Maintain records of statistics related to court proceedings.

Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and two or more indigenous languages; fluency in IsiZulu and IsiXhosa is compulsory.
  • Experience: A minimum of three months of practical experience as a court interpreter is required.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license will be considered an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Computer literacy (MS Office).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
    • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relations.
    • High accuracy and attention to detail.
