A 36-year-old security guard, Kilile Dail, has appeared before the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 2 May 2025, following his arrest for the alleged murder of Kuni Daniel Setsetse (42). The accused was granted R500 bail and is expected to return to court on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.
Fatal Altercation at ATM Turns Deadly
According to a media statement from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West, the incident occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday, 1 May 2025. Dail was on duty as a security guard at a local filling station when an argument reportedly broke out between him and Setsetse, along with Setsetse’s friends, who were experiencing issues at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
The situation escalated, and Dail allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper body with a knife. Setsetse was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was unfortunately declared dead.
Police Condemn Use of Violence in Conflict
Major General Patrick Asaneng, Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, condemned the violence and expressed disappointment at the loss of life:
“This is yet another senseless murder that should never have happened. The irrational resort to violence has now taken a life and will undoubtedly affect the families of both the victim and the suspect. Using violence to settle disputes often leads to tragic and irreversible consequences.”
Justice Process Underway
The case has sent shockwaves through the Schweizer-Reneke community, raising questions about conflict management, security sector accountability, and public safety at business premises.
The SAPS has confirmed that investigations are continuing, and Dail will appear again in court next month.
