The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced a major breakthrough in the case of missing journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, following the arrest of four suspects linked to their disappearance. This significant development was confirmed by National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola on Sunday, 4 May 2025.
Cross-Province Operation Yields Results
The arrests were made during a joint operation between Gauteng and Mpumalanga police, led by Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya and Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi. Authorities revealed that:
- The first suspect arrested was reportedly the last person seen with the missing couple.
- The other three suspects were found in possession of vehicle parts believed to belong to the journalist’s car.
- Among those arrested is a mechanic operating in KwaMhlanga, suspected of disassembling stolen vehicles.
- Two VW Citi Golfs have been seized during the investigation.
From Missing Persons to Kidnapping Case
The case has now escalated from a missing persons investigation to one involving kidnapping and car hijacking. SAPS has indicated that additional charges such as house robbery and possession of stolen property are under consideration.
“The arrest of these individuals is a positive step forward. However, our priority remains locating the missing couple and ensuring justice is served,” said SAPS in a statement.
Court Appearances Scheduled
- One suspect is scheduled to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.
- The remaining three suspects are expected to appear before the KwaMhlanga Magistrates’ Court later this week.
National Task Force Still Searching
A multidisciplinary team has been assembled, involving:
- Organised crime and serious violent crime units
- SAPS cybercrime investigators
- Counterintelligence teams
- Drone pilots and SAPS Airwing
Despite the arrests, search efforts for Aserie Ndlovu and his partner continue, with police urging the public to report any information that could assist the investigation.
