Who is Mpho Moerane?
Mpho Moerane was born in Alexandra, Gauteng, south Africa. He matriculated from Minerva High School. He completed a course on electrical engineering and holds a project management certificate.

Mpho Moerane career
Mpho Moerane worked for Eskom until 2006, when he became a businessman. He ran his own restaurant business before he was elected to the Johannesburg city council. He sat on the boards of Metro Bus, Alexandra Clinic and was a non-executive director for Chancellor House Holdings.
Moerane served as the treasurer of the African National Congress’s regional structure in Johannesburg. Moerane formerly served as the head of fundraising in the office of the regional treasurer.
Following Geoff Makhubo’s election as mayor of Johannesburg in December 2019, he was appointed as the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) responsible for environment and infrastructure services. As MMC for environment and infrastructure services, Moerane launched the #KleenaJoburg campaign in Alexandra in January 2020 to encourage residents and stakeholders to clean up the environment. Makhubo died from COVID-19 related complications in July 2021 and was replaced by Jolidee Matongo as mayor in August 2021. Matongo kept Moerane as MMC for environment and infrastructure services. Matongo died in a car accident in September and the ANC chose Moerane as their preferred candidate to replace him as mayor. He was elected and sworn into office on 1 October 2021.

According to reports, the former mayor of Johannesburg, Mpho Moerane, has died on 18 May 2022. He was involved in the accident last Monday night when he was travelling from Alexandra to his home in Mondeor, south of Joburg.
